Hello and welcome to another Better Marker Tutorial. Today we'll be drawing a green diamond ring using the premium brushes from my Better Marker Brush set. Please download the tutorial files first before we begin. You'll receive the tutorial PDF, sketch file, and palette swatch for this activity.
When you're ready, let's begin.
First let's import the sketch file. Use it as a guide and sketch out the composition using the Peppermint brush or 6B brush. Lower the opacity of this layer and lock it.
Step 1: In another layer, add the Paper Texture using Freya Fine Paper No. 10. Change the color mode to Linear Burn and place this layer on top of all the layers you will make. This way, the paper texture will apply to the entire composition and it will look more realistic.
I decided to add some backdrop color at this point so I can coordinate the jewel colors later. I used Freya Marker No. 47 and Freya Wet Marker No. 10 in varying shades of green. You can choose your own colors too if you're comfortable.
Step 2: Add another layer and start to color the ring with grey, blue, light yellow and light green using Freya Wet Marker No. 10. The yellow and green will act as highlight and reflection.
Step 3: Continue building the metal texture using Freya Wet Marker No. 11. Add another layer and start coloring the metal mount for the jewel. I like the straight texture of the Freya Dry Marker No. 8 so I will use that for texture here.
Step 4: And now for the jewel, add another layer and start with the base color. In my case green. Use a darker shade to make crisscross lines across it. I used Freya Wet Marker No. 4 for this. Add lighter strokes as highlight using Freya Calligraphy Marker No. 10.
Congratulations, you've just completed this Green Diamond Better Marker project. Please don't forget to tag me if you post your version online. I would love to see it!
