Hello and welcome to this Gouache Brush Tutorial for Procreate. Today we'll be working on this Orchid Mantis Illustration using the premium brushes from the Realistic Gouache Brush set. Please download all the tutorial files before we start.

‍Step 1: Begin by layering the Freya Gouache Paper No. 5 for the background. On another layer, sketch out the composition using any sketching brush like a 6B or Peppermint.

Then create the base color layer with Freya Gouache Thick no. 2 and Thin no. 16.

‍Step2: In another layer, add some darker, more vibrant colors with Freya Gouache Thin no. 18 and Blender No. 5. For the leaves use Freya Gouache Thin No. 16 and Freya Thick No. 2.

‍Step 3: In separate layers, build up the details with Freya Gouache Thin no. 18 and Freya Gouache Tip No. 6.  In this way, you'll have more control over your layer modes should you decide to tweak them later. Use clipping masks to help you color within the shape.

‍Step 4: Decorate the background with Freya Gouache Rolling no. 5 and add some more detail with Freya Gouache Thin no. 18.
