Free Fabric Brushes for Procreate

Hey artists! In today’s blog, we will be taking a break from articles and tutorials with a couple freebies we have up our sleeves. Now, most people use Procreate to paint amazing landscapes and lovely portrait, but did you know that Procreate is also a great tool for fashion design? That’s right! Being a fashion designer, or just being a fan of fashion really, means that you always have to be at the ready when ideas come knocking. That's where fabric texture brushes come in handy.

Being able to effortlessly add the look and feel of different fabrics-from soft cotton to luxurious silk — to your concept designs is such an invaluable thing to be able to do. It helps you add a certain depth and sense of realism to be able to really picture the design you have on your canvas. With fabric texture brushes, you can do just that. And the best part? We're giving away two of these fabric texture brushes for free, so you can start experimenting right away.

To get started with our free fabric texture brushes, head over to the download link provided in the following sections. Once you've downloaded the brushes, you'll need to import them into Procreate. If you're not sure how to do this, we discussed this in a nifty little blog, so you can refer back to “How to Import Brushes to Procreate” for a step-by-step guide.

Pro Tip: If you're using Procreate 5.3 or later, you can enable the Hover feature to preview brush strokes without actually touching the canvas. This can be especially useful when using texture brushes, as it allows you to see just exactly where the stroke will start. To enable the Hover feature, watch our guide right below. This feature can help you save time and make more informed decisions while designs.

Let's get to the goodies!

Denim Texture Brush

Our first free brush for Procreate in today’s blog is the Denim Texture Brush. Who doesn’t have at least one Denim in their closet, huh? This brush is perfect for adding a rugged, denim-like texture to your designs. To add even more dash of realism, you can layer a bunch of blue shades to achieve that complex denim shade. Denim is also known for its fraying and imperfect look, so adding a bunch of imperfections will add a lot more depth to your project.

Cotton Texture Brush

The second free Procreate brush we have for today’s lineup is the Cotton Texture Brush, one of the most common fabrics found in everyone's closet. Now, this one is definitely subtler than the previous brush but don’t let that fool you! In the true nature of realism, it’s the subtlety that can give even the simplest surfaces visual interest.

Now that you have your fabric texture brushes ready, let's see how to use them in Procreate. First, pick the brush you want from the library. Adjust its size and opacity to fit your artwork. We talk about using opacity on both your layers and brushes to experiment in our previous blog How to Change Opacity in Procreate. Play around with these settings until you get the texture you like!

For the last part of this blog, we'll be going through some tips so you can use your new brushes to their full potential. First things first, layers are your friends here. Use them to add depth to your design. Create a new layer for each part of your artwork, then blend the fabric textures in with your drawing.

If it's effects you’re looking to add, check out our blog discussing the different types of adjustments and how to use them in your projects, or to make your textures blend smoothly, try different blending modes and opacity levels.
