‍
Are you an artist or designer looking to create digital artwork but uh-oh! You’re on team Android! Alright, let’s not get into the age old debate about which is the better device but you might have noticed searching in the Play Store that Procreate is only available for iOS. Don’t give up just yet! There are several alternatives out there that offer similar features and capabilities.Â
Procreate has a well earned reputation as one of the go-to apps for digital illustration and design, thanks to its intuitive interface, powerful tools, and extensive brush library. However, Android users often find themselves searching for comparable apps to bring their creative visions to life. While Procreate may not be an option for Android devices, there's a diverse range of drawing apps available on the Google Play Store that can meet the needs of artists and designers alike.
‍
Clip Studio Paint is a comprehensive drawing and painting software that offers a wide array of features and tools for digital artists and illustrators. While originally developed for desktop computers, it has since been adapted for use on both iOS and Android devices, providing all artists with a powerful alternative to Procreate. Out of all the apps we’ll be exploring, this one might be the most popular and beloved one so far.Â
‍
‍
-Professional-Grade Drawing Tools: Just like Procreate, Clip Studio Paint boasts a range of professional-grade drawing tools, including customizable brushes, pen stabilization, and advanced brush settings. Similar to Procreate, it has also slowly been climbing up the ranks to being an industry standard and in turn making it a competitor to Adobe Photoshop as well. In addition to that, there is also an in-app store and community where you can browse and discover endless materials for your art.
-Layer Support and Animation Features: Like we see in Procreate as well as most (if not all) drawing apps out there, Clip Studio Paint offers layer support, allowing artists to organize their artwork into separate layers for easier editing and manipulation. Additionally, the app includes animation features, making it suitable for creating animations and storyboard illustrations.
-Vector and Raster Drawing: Unlike Procreate which isn't made to support for vector-based artworks, one of the standout features of Clip Studio Paint is its support for both vector and raster drawing. This means you can work with scalable vector graphics (SVG) and high-res raster images, giving you lots of flexibility in your creative process.

MediBang Paint is another of the more popular drawing apps out there, making it a great choice among digital artists and comic creators. Like Clip Studio Paint, Medibang also offers a desktop version and while it’s not as popular as Clip Studio Paint, it does have a fair amount of loyal users that stand by its simple yet powerful features.Â
‍
‍
-Range of Brushes: Like Procreate, MediBang Paint provides users with a number of amazing default brushes to suit various artistic styles and preferences. Whether you prefer digital painting, anime illustration, or comic book art, you'll find a brush that fits your needs in MediBang Paint's extensive library.
-Collaborative Tools and Cloud Storage: One of the standout features of MediBang Paint is its collaborative tools, which enable multiple users to work on the same project simultaneously. This makes it an excellent choice for collaborative projects or group illustrations. Furthermore, MediBang Paint offers cloud storage for artwork, allowing users to access their creations from any device with an internet connection.

Autodesk SketchBook is a well known powerful drawing app known for its professional-grade tools and intuitive interface, making it a favorite among digital artists and illustrators.
‍
-Customizable Brushes and Layer Support: Similar to Procreate, Autodesk SketchBook offers a wide range of staple brushes, allowing for unique effects and textures in your artwork. Additionally, the app provides layer support, enabling users to organize their drawings into separate layers for easier navigation.
-Perspective Guides and Rulers: Autodesk SketchBook and Procreate are also similar in the inclusion of perspective guides and rulers. These tools allow artists to create accurate perspective drawings with ease, making Autodesk SketchBook the go-to choice as particularly suitable for architectural and industrial design projects for Android users.
-Predictive Stroke Technology: One of Procreate's best feature is the Smoothing for us shaky hand artists out there. However unlike Procreate's feature as seen below, Autodesk SketchBook boasts its own predictive stroke technology, which helps users achieve smoother and more precise lines in their drawings. This innovative feature analyzes the trajectory of the pen stroke and adjusts the line to improve accuracy, making it easier for artists to create clean and polished artwork.

‍
ibis Paint X is another feature-rich drawing app designed for digital painting and illustration, offering a wide range of tools and effects to enhance your artwork.
‍
-Selection of Brushes and Layer Support: Much like Procreate, ibis Paint X provides users with a diverse selection of brushes to cater to various artistic styles and preferences. And as with all the others, it also comes with full layer support.Â
-Screen Recording during Drawing: One of the best similar features of ibis Paint X is its ability to record your drawing process directly within the app just like in Procreate as seen below. This allows artists to create time-lapse videos of their artwork, providing insight into their creative process and enhancing their online presence. Additionally, similar to Procreate's Adjustments, ibis Paint X offers a variety of filters and effects that can be applied to artwork, allowing users to add unique textures and visual elements to their creations.

‍
Last but definitely not least is Infinite Painter, a user-friendly drawing app that offers a seamless and fluid drawing experience, making it a popular choice among digital artists and illustrators. With its relatively simple user interface, this could be the closest in terms of visuals.Â
‍
‍
-Wide Range of Brushes and Layer Support: Similar to Procreate, Infinite Painter provides users with a wide selection of brushes for different styles. Along with its layer support, it also allows artists to prop up a reference photo, similar to Procreate but not quite. Unlike in Procreate where your reference photo sits in a bulky window, in Infinite Painter, the reference photo sits on the canvas itself allowing for a little bit more free space.
-Blending Modes: Infinite Painter includes blending modes that enable users to blend colors and textures seamlessly, allowing for smooth transitions and effects in their artwork. This feature provides artists with greater flexibility and creativity in digital painting, similar to what you'd find in Procreate.
‍
And there we have it! While Procreate may not be available for Android devices, there's no shortage of high-quality drawing apps that offer similar features and capabilities. The absence of Procreate on Android doesn't and shouldn't limit your creative potential! With the diverse range of drawing apps available, you can find the perfect tool to bring your artistic vision to life on your Android device.
‍
Happy drawing!
