Sea Shell Watercolor Tutorial for Procreate

Download the files here

Today, we'll be working on a project using the free brushes from my Ultimate Watercolor Brush Set. So please download all the materials first before starting. Once you're ready, open a new 3000 x 3000 px canvas at 300 DPI. Then add the sketch photo for reference.

First, sketch out the composition using the Peppermint or 6B brush. Once you're done, lower the opacity and lock this layer.

Step 1: Now in another layer, add a paper background using Freya Paper Texture No. 4 in a light grey color. Set the layer to Linear Burn and lock this layer. This layer should be on top of all the succeeding layers so that its texture will apply to the entire artwork. In another layer, start coloring the base using Freya Wet on Dry No. 4.

Step 2: Continue adding layers for each element of the composition. Using Freya Dry on Dry No. 5 and Blender No.2 Brush, create a gold tone for the necklace string and pendant. Add some hints of golden brown color to the shell with the Freya Wet on Dry No. 4 brush.

Step 3: At this point, you can start adding some backdrop detail using Freya Wet on Wet No. 5 Brush. Add a bit of shadow under the shell using the Freya Wet on Dry no. 4 brush. Use a light brown color so that it still blends with the composition.

Step 4: Lastly, add some depth and texture using the Freya Dry on Dry No. 5 brush and Freya Wet on Dry No. 4 brush along the shell's ridges and edges.

Congratulations! You've just completed this Sea Shell Tutorial using the free sampler brushes from my Ultimate Watercolor Brush Set! Please don't forget to tag me if you post it on your socials! I would love to see your version.
