Fox and Scenery Watercolor Tutorial for Procreate

Download the files here

Hello! Welcome to another Watercolor Tutorial using the premium brushes from my Ultimate Watercolor Brush Set. Before we begin, please download the tutorial PDF and palette swatch for this project.

Let's begin!

Step 1: Add a layer of Freya Paper Texture No.4 in a light grey color. Set this to layer to Linear Burn and adjust the opacity or curve to get the effect you like. Lock this layer and make sure that all succeeding layers go under this layer so that the texture shows up for the entire composition. Next, sketch out the composition using the Peppermint Brush or 6B. In this illustration, I used my drawing template for the fox but you can also sketch this out freehand.

Step 2: Now, this is a bit tricky. We're going to create solid shapes based on the sketch and then fill each one with white color. Use a separate layer for each shape. You can turn the background color on or off if you need to see where you're painting.

Steep 3: Once you have the shape layers ready, you can now add a base color to each shape using Alpha Lock. Use Freya Wet on Wet No. 6 and Freya Wet on Wet No. 3, add gradient color and texture to the base color.

Step 4: Using a clipping mask on top of the shapes, add details using Colored Pencil No. 2. This will add the dreamy whimsical feel to the illustration.

Congratulations! You've just completed this whimsical fox scenery illustration using the Ultimate Watercolor Brush Set. Please don't forget to share your finished work online so we can appreciate it!
