Hello! Today we're going to work on another lettering tutorial using the premium brushes from my Freya Artistic Lettering Brush Set. This time, we'll be adding shadows and flourish to our lettering. Please don't forget to download the tutorial files before we begin. I've included the tutorial pdf, palette swatch, and a template to use with this activity.
If you're ready, let's get started. First, create a new canvas, let's work with 3000x3000 px and 300 DPI.
Step 1: Paint the entire layer with Freya Gouache Paper Texture brush in a grey color. Change the layer mode to LB or Linear Burn. You'll see that your entire artwork now has this realistic paper look. Lock this layer and make sure all new layers are underneath this layer. Then in another layer, use the Freya Gouache Rolling No. 4 to add our gradient color background.
Step 2: Now you can start composing your lettering art. Create another layer on top of the background color but underneath the texture layer. You can use the template I provided in the download folder. I used Freya Gouache Lettering No. 4 - Multicolor Brush for the base lettering. Choose your primary and secondary colors from the colors panel. And then I used Freya Gouache Lettering 5 for the flourish.
Step 3: Duplicate the composition, lower it abit and change the color to create a shadow effect. Choose a darker peach color so that it still matches the composition's color palette. In another layer, use Freya Gouache Lettering 15 to lightly trace over the lettering to add texture and detail. You can also use this to write the remaining text in our composition.
Step 4: Duplicate the white detail layer, lower it and change the color into dark grey to create a shadow for this detail. Then on another layer, with the Freya Gouache Lettering 5 - Multicolor brush, add the final details to balance out the space.
Congratulations! You've just completed this quick lettering project using my new Artistic Lettering Brush Set! Please don't forget to tag me if you post your work on Instagram! I'd love to see your version!
