Hello! Today we're going to work on something a bit for complex using the premium brushes from my Freya Realistic Gouache Brush Set. Please don't forget to download the tutorial files which includes the tutorial PDF, sketch file, and palette swatch.
Let's begin by creating a new canvas, size: 2158 x 3837 px with at least 300 DPI.
Step 1: Add a layer of texture using the Freya Gouache Paper 4. Brush this texture all over the layer. Change the layer mode to Linear Burn and then lock this layer. This layer should be on top of all the succeeding layers so that all the layers will have this same texture. Add a layer of green using Freya Gouache Rolling No. 1 and the Blender Brush No. 4. I used a Freya drawing template for the squirrel but you can also sketch use the sketch file provided in the download folder.
Step 2: In separate layers, slowly add the base colors using Freya Gouache Thick No. 1 and Freya Gouache Thin No. 7 brush.
Step 3: Add a clipping mask layer on top of the base layers to add details using Freya Gouache No. 4 and Freya Gouache Thin No. 17. Follow the same process for the leaves, using Freya Gouache Thick No. 1.
Step 4: For the final touches, use Freya Gouache Thin No. 4 to add stripes to the Squirrel's back. Add leaf veins and details to the mushroom using Freya Gouache Thick No. 4. Use Freya Gouache Thick No. 1 in other areas that need more detail.
And there you have it. We just finished illustrating our sweet furry friend! Please don't forget to share your finished version online, I'd love to see your progress with the Freya Realistic Gouache Brush Set.
