Halloween Siamese Watercolor Tutorial for Procreate

Download the files here

Hello! In this week's tutorial we're going to paint a Halloween illustration using premium brushes from the Ultimate Watercolor Brush Set. Please download the accompanying files, which will include the coloring page, swatch palette file, and tutorial PDF for offline viewing.

Let's begin by creating a 3000 x 3000-pixel canvas at 300 DPI. Import the coloring page. You can use this as a coloring page, just set the layer mode to Multiply. Or you can create a sketch based on the line art using either the 6B or Peppermint Brush.

Step 1:  Add a new layer on top of the sketch layer. Set your active color to light grey and then choose Freya Paper Texture No. 5. Swipe the texture all around the layer. Set the layer mode to LB - Linear Burn. You can further tweak this layer's opacity, as well curve settings to show more contrast and texture. Lock this layer. Make sure all succeeding layers are underneath the Paper Texture layer so that it covers the entire artwork when you're done.

Then create base layers and add the base colors for different elements such as the cat, pumpkin, and leaves.

Step 2: Add a new layer for the texture on top of your base colors, set it to clipping mask and use Freya Wet on Dry No. 17 Water Tank. With this brush, the more pressure you add, the more diluted the paint looks, so you're able to achieve a really nice watercolor effect. Repeat the same process for the rest of the illustration, making sure to set the new layers as clipping masks on top of their respective base layers. You can also use Blender Wash No. 2 to blend. For the cat's body, use Freya Wet on Wet No. 3.

Step 3: Add another clipping mask layer, and this time we'll add more details to the pumpkins using the Freya Wet on Wet No. 3. Add darker tones to the cat's fur using Freya Dry on Wet No. 8. And then use Freya Wet on Wet No. 1 brush for the tail, to make it look bushy.

Step 4: For the final touches, use Freya Tip Brush No. 4 to draw the fur detail. Be careful to follow the cat's posture so that the fur looks natural. Then you can add other embellishments like the Jack-o-Lantern face to the pumpkin using Freya Wet on Dry No. 17 Water Tank and Freya Blender Wash No. 2. Lastly you can add a backdrop using Freya Stamp Brush No. 4.

There you go! I hope you enjoyed this tutorial! Please don't forget to share your finished version online!
