Hello! In today's tutorial we are going to design a tie-die pattern using premium brushes from my Ultimate Watercolor Brush Set. As a treat, I'll provide the brushes for this tutorial as well. You can download the tutorial materials which include a copy of the tutorial PDF, the drawing guide, 2 brushes, and the swatch palette. Please make sure that you're on your iPad when you download these files. They'll be in your Files App and from there you can import the swatch palette into Procreate.
Let's begin by creating a 3000x3000 pixel canvas. Then import the drawing guide. This is just a sketch of the direction we'll be painting around to create the Tie-Dye effect in Procreate. Tap on this imported layer and tap on "N". Choose Multiply or M.
Step 1: Add another layer underneath the guide layer. Using Freya Wet on Wet No. 3 brush, set the color to purple and draw outward following the curve of our drawing guide.
Step 2: In the same layer and using the same brush, draw the blue strokes moving in and out to blend the colors a bit with the purple. Again, flaring outward.
Step 3: Now to add the inner colors, this time moving inward. Start with the inner most first. Remember to blend the colors a bit so you get that bleed through effect. The strokes will be shorter and smaller as you move closer to the center of the "tie".
Step 4: Once you're done with the colors, let's distort it a bit with the Liquify tool > Crystals. Use the settings as shown. Then add another layer for the texture. Use Freya Paper Texture No. 4 brush, and set it to a very light grey color. Paint all over the canvas. Then set that layer to Linear Burn or LB. Now it has a nice paper texture.
Now you have a tie-dye inspired painting. Feel free to experiment with other colors and add more "ties" for a really cool effect! I hope you enjoyed this new tutorial. If you liked the brushes used in this tutorial, you can find the full set on my website.
