Thank you for your interest in this Procreate Oil Painting Tutorial. We'll be using the premium brushes from the Freya Oil Paint Brushset. Before we begin, download all the tutorial files to your Files App. Please make sure that you're on your iPad when you do this.
Tap on the zip file and it will create an unzipped folder. You'll find the tutorial PDF, sketch, and the swatch palette. Tapping on the brush file and swatch palette should automatically import them into Procreate. Save the sketch by tapping on the file, and tapping on the send button on the top bar. Choose Save Image.
Step 1: Start by creating a sketch of our composition using 6B or Peppermint Brush. Lower the opacity of this layer and then lock it. On another layer, add the Freya Oil Canvas No. 9 in a light grey color. You can adjust the intensity of details through the Adjustments > Curves. When you're satisfied, lock the layer so that you don't accidentally draw on it.
Now start to color in the background color using Freya Oil Dry No. 13. Then add the based layers for each element on a separate layer. For the vase, you can use Freya Oil Dry No. 8.
Step 2: Color in the leaves using Freya Oil Wet No. 9. Take note of how shadows will fall. Objects appear darker when they are closer to other objects as well.
Step 3: On another layer, color in the petals using Freya Oil Wet No. 9. You can add a shadow underneath the vase using Freya Oil Dry No. 3 brush. You can also create a frosty texture using Freya Oil Old Brush No. 5.
Step 4: For the final details, add the distinct lines on the flower petals using Freya Oil Dry No. 1. You can also add snow flakes! Add other details using the Freya Oil Tip No. 1. And last but not the least, swipe on a layer of Freya Oil Top Coat No. 1 for that realistic painterly look!
Congratulations! You've just completed the Poinsettia Oil Paint Tutorial! Please don't forget to tag me if you post your work on Instagram! I'd love to see your version!
