Happy Songkran! We're celebrating Thai New Year with this watercolor tutorial using the premium brushes from my Ultimate Watercolor Brush Set for Procreate. Before we begin please download the tutorial files. You'll get a copy of the tutorial PDF for offline viewing, swatch palette and sketch for this tutorial.
Let us begin by creating a 3000 x 3000 px canvas at 300 DPI.
Then import the sketch to serve as your reference. You can also trace over this sketch using a 6B or Peppermint Brush.
Step 1: add the Freya Paper Texture No. 4 in a light grey color. Set this layer to linear burn and reduce the opacity. Lock this layer and add all the new layers underneath it. This way, the texture will apply to the entire composition. Add another layer under the texture and use the Freya Stamp Brush No. 4 and Freya Wet on Wet No. 9 to add some blue color.
Step 2: Now add another layer, and start adding the base colors for the flowers and the leaves. I like to add a layer for each element of my drawings because it's easier to edit later on.
Step 3: Now that we have all the base layers, it's time to add a clipping mask on top of the base layers so we can draw within the bounds of our shapes. Add shadows by using a darker shade. For the white flowers, use Freya Dry on Wet 1 and Freya Wet on Dry No. 5. For the leaves use Freya Dry on Wet No. 1 and Freya Dry on Dry No. 3.
Step 4: Blend some of the colors using Blender No. 2 brush. Add some highlights using Freya Wet On Dry No. 17. Follow the curve of the leaves. Add the finishing details using Freya Colored Pencil No. 7.
Add another layer and color it blue. You can also add white reflections to the water for a more realistic effect. Congratulations! I hope you enjoyed this simple flower tutorial using the premium brushes from my Ultimate Watercolor Brush Set for Procreate! Happy Songkran!
